RAPID RAIL, UITM SIGN MOU ON COLLABORATION IN RAIL ENGINEERING, OPERATIONS

SHAH ALAM, 20 November – Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) continues its rapid stride in the transformation of public transport services by expanding further its collaboration with institutes of higher learning to expand the pool of expertise in rail engineering and operations.

Just weeks after an agreement to provide technical support for Politeknik Seberang Perai (PSP), Prasarana – through its subsidiary managing its rail business, Rapid Rail – today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UiTM to establish collaboration in the promotion and development of human capital, training, academic, cultural and co-operation between both parties.

Witnessed by Prasarana President and Group CEO, Dato’ Sri Azmi Abdul Aziz and UiTM Board member, Dato’ Mohd Zaini Hassan, the signing ceremony was held at the Chancellery Office at UiTM Main campus in Shah Alam.

The agreement was penned by Rapid Rail CEO Dato’ Ir. Zohari Sulaiman with UiTM being represented by its Vice-Chancellor, Emeritus Professor Dato’ Dr. Hassan Said. Rail Academy Head, Haji Zaki Mohamed and Prof. Zaini Abdullah, who is the Deputy Vice Chancellor,  Industry, Community, Alumni & Entrepreneurship Networking, signed as witnesses to the agreement.

Through this MOU, Rapid Rail and UITM will identify and carry out initiatives to strengthen, promote and develop human capital, training, academic, cultural and research co-operation in the field of rail engineering and operations.

Their scope of activities would include collaboration in consultancy and research, sharing of expertise and resources; and organization of symposia, conferences, short courses and meetings. Both parties would also exchange of information pertaining to development in teaching, training methodology and cultural development; as well as facilitate industrial training placements in the areas related to rail engineering, social, economic and development studies.

The MOU is valid for three years; but may be extended upon agreement by both parties.
