RAPID PENANG EXPANDS SERVICES IN PERAK WITH STAGE BUS TO PARIT BUNTAR

PENANG, 11 December – Rapid Bus – a subsidiary of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) to operate its bus services – is expanding further is services in Perak by introducing of a new service today between Nibong Tebal in Penang to Parit Buntar.

Operated by Rapid Penang, the new Route 804 is in addition to the inter-city service between Parit Buntar and Penang Sentral; and the services of Rapid Kamunting, which is also operated by Rapid Penang through its Nibong Tebal Depot.

Officiating the launch ceremony of the new route at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Transkrian, Rapid Penang Chief Operating Officer, Encik Mohd Azmi Abdullah said the new route will benefit residential areas immensely especially along Jalan Belatuk, Jalan Bukit Panchor, Jalan Ampang Jajar, Jalan Pekaka, Jalan Padang, Jalan Sekolah.

“More significantly, this stage bus service will also allow students at USM Transkrian campus, to travel with ease to Nibong Tebal and Parit Buntar,” he said, adding that Route 804 would also service key attraction points like Mydin Mall, Parit Buntar Hospital and Hentian Raya Bus Terminal as well as schools and colleges.

Like the impact made by Rapid Kamunting and the Parit Buntar-Penang Sentral inter-city services, the new route, he said, would further enhance the potential of economy and business growth along these key areas.

The operation of Route 804 commences as early as 6am and with the last bus making its trip at 8:05pm daily. Frequency is every 65 minutes, subject to traffic conditions.

“By introducing an additional route in the Mainland, we hope to further cultivate the use of public transportation. Besides, this additional route is also key connectivity to transport those who travel from Sungai Petani to Kepala Batas and vice versa,” Azmi added.

No additional charges will be imposed on the existing value of Rapid Penang bus passes and pass holders may enjoy this additional route services as usual. 

At present, Rapid Penang has 403 buses plying 59 routes and ferrying some 81,000 commuters daily.

Members of public are encouraged to contact the Intelligent Commuter Information System (ICIS) at 04-238 1313 for any information on bus operation routes and schedules. The ICIS Centre operates from 05:30 am to 12:00 Midnight daily, including public holidays.
