SUNGAI BULOH, 17 January – The MRT Sungai Buloh – Kajang Line, which is operated by Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd for asset owner Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp), recorded a total ridership of more than 1.2 million until yesterday since it began operations for Phase 1 on December 16 last year.
In announcing this today, Chief Operating Officer MRT Sungai Buloh – Kajang Line Muhammad Isom Azis has expressed satisfaction in the overall performance of services.Connecting 12 stations between Sungai Buloh and Semantan for Phase 1, the MRT Line has received an average of between 27,000 and 30,000 daily during the promotional one-month free ride.“The figure is considered encouraging since the line has yet to be fully integrated,” he said during a walkabout with media members at the MRT Sungai Buloh station today.With expiry of the promotional free ride for MRT trains and feeder buses yesterday, commuters are charged between RM1.20 and RM3.90 for their rides, depending on the distance traveled.
Commuters have an option of using cash or cashless via tokens or Touch ‘n Go cards for their travels and those with concession cards – senior citizens, students and those with disabilities are accorded a 50 percent discount.For the feeder bus service, commuters are charged a flat rate of RM1 per trip.Usage of MyRapid cards will only applicable after the opening of the second phase of the MRT Line; running from Semantan to Kajang and covering 19 stations. The full opening of the Line is scheduled in July 31 this year.
