Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) today held a second meeting with YAB Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak this week at his office in Putrajaya to discuss and explore new initiatives to further enhance public transport services in the country.
Led by Prasarana’s President and Group CEO Dato’ Azmi Abdul Aziz, the meeting discussed various initiatives undertaken by the Group as well as its future plans in transforming the services of the LRT and monorail. Joined by two impromptu commuters and cheered on by the adoring commuters, the minister and his rivals comfortably passed the first two rounds.
Dato’ Azmi also took the opportunity to inform Prasarana’s latest initiative to offer a 50 per cent discount for travel from 6am to 7am in encouraging commuters to travel ahead of the peak hours on weekdays on the LRT, monorail and Bus Rapid Transit – Sunway Line.
Under the initiative, which commences tomorrow (September 16) to ease congestion in trains and stations, a discount of 50% on fare will be extended to all commuters who tap-in before 7am via the cashless payment modes – Touch ‘n Go, MyRapid Card, MyRapid Smart 7, MyRapid Smart 30 and My Rapid Concession Card.
In allowing commuters to fully optimize on the one-hour window, Dato’ Azmi said commuters will be allowed to enter the stations as early as 5.50am. Commuters merely need to touch in their travel cards and enter the gates before 7am to enjoy the discount; regardless of their time of exit.
According to Dato’ Azmi, the meeting with the Prime Minister today also touched on various other areas to additional initiatives to upgrade the LRT and monorail services including further discussions on the enhancement of the LRT Kelana Jaya Line that was discussed two days ago; which included the upgrading of 15 power substations on the Kelana Jaya Line; a thorough assessment of the entire system and appointment of an independent technical assessor.
“Today’s meeting discussed on a bigger picture in the role of Prasarana and its subsidiaries in transforming the country’s public transport services; and not just on the challenges faced by the Kelana Jaya Line.”
“We would like to thank YAB Dato’ Sri Najib for his interest in our efforts to promote public transport and further upgrade the services in the interest of the rakyat. Prasarana has started the ball rolling on the transformation of the public transport services and we aim to keep the momentum going.”
“We have always acknowledged that we have challenges in carrying out these duties. Public’s expectation will continue to escalate and they will continue to demand for better service. We at Prasarana are up to that challenge and will continue to work closely with the Government and its agencies in carrying out these duties for the rakyat,” added Dato’ Azmi.
