Rapid KL LRT Ampang Line between Ampang and Miharja stations will be opened late by three hours at 9am this Sunday (11 December) to accommodate the final phase of migration works to the new signaling system. 

Next week, on a historical Friday, 16 December 2016, or now famously coined as 161216, Prasarana will operate the first phase of the SBK line from the Sungai Buloh to Semantan, a distance of 21 km. Next July, Prasarana will operate another 19 MRT stations from KL Sentral (Muzium Negara station) to mark the 2nd phase or full opening of the SBK line that stretches over 51km.Services at Chan Sow Lin Station and the entire LRT Sri Petaling Line between Putra Heights and Sentul Timur will operate as normal from 6am to midnight, Rapid KL said in a statement issued today.

The opening of the seven stations – Ampang, Cahaya, Cempaka, Pandan Indah, Pandan Jaya, Maluri and Miharja, is delayed by three hours to facilitate the signaling system upgrading works, which starts at midnight and need nine hours to complete their assignment. 

“The necessary upgrading works starts immediately after services close for December 10 as Rapid KL aims to minimize inconvenience to its customers as much as possible. In the absence of LRT services for the opening three hours at the seven stations, free shuttle buses will be provided by Rapid KL bus service,” the statement added.

Apart from banners, posters and notices, staff will be deployed at the stations concerned to assist commuters in using the shuttle buses and for relevant information.

The upgrading of the signaling system, or technically termed as Communication Based Train Control (CBTC), has been carried out in stages in view of time availability as the LRT services operate daily from 6am to midnight; which is then followed by comprehensive maintenance works after the end of daily operational service.  

On December 1, Rapid KL completed upgrading works to bring into operations the new six-car AMY trains for Ampang Line and replace the Adtranz trains, before reverting back to the previous movement; plying directly between Ampang station and Sentul Timur for the convenience for the commuters.
