Kuala Lumpur, 23 June 2020: Three stations of the MRT Kajang Line (formerly known as the MRT Sungai Buloh‐Kajang Line) will be closed on the weekend of 27 and 28 June 2020 for works related to the migration of a section of the line to the new MRT Putrajaya Line (formerly known as the MRT Sungai Buloh‐Serdang‐Putrajaya Line).
The three stations are the Sungai Buloh MRT Station, Kampung Selamat MRT Station and Kwasa Damansara MRT Station. The Sungai Buloh KTM Station as well as the park and ride facilities next to the station will not be affected by the closure.
With the closure of the three stations, MRT trains from Kajang will terminate at Kwasa Sentral MRT Station. Similar to the closures that were carried out in 2018 and 2019, a free replacement shuttle bus service will operate between Kwasa Sentral MRT Station and Sungai Buloh MRT Station, stopping also at Kampung Selamat MRT Station.
Buses will not stop at Kwasa Damansara MRT Station as there are no residential or commercial Buses will not stop at Kwasa Damansara MRT Station as there is no residential or commercial activities near the station. The park and ride at Kwasa Damansara MRT Station will also be closed. Passengers who usually use the parking facility at Kwasa Damansara MRT Station are advised to park their vehicles at Kwasa Sentral MRT Station or Sungai Buloh MRT Station. MRT Feeder Bus services from Sungai Buloh MRT Station and Kampung Selamat MRT Station will continue to operate as usual.
Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd MRT Kajang Line Chief Operating Officer Tuan Haji Azmi Mohd Zain said staff will be at hand to assist passengers. Signage, banners, and buntings have been put up and announcements made to inform passengers of the closure and free replacement shuttle bus service.
“The free replacement shuttle bus service which was put on during the previous closures operated very smoothly. We hope to repeat that for the coming closure,” he said, adding that the replacement shuttle bus service would be operating according to the usual weekend train frequency of between 7 minutes and 15 minutes.
Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) Project Director Dato’ Amiruddin Ma’aris said a lot of planning and preparation works had been carried out prior to the upcoming closure to ensure that all works could be completed as scheduled and to enable timely train service to resume on Monday morning.
He said the closure this time was for the MRT Putrajaya Line electric train and power energisation works as well as for testing the various communication systems vital to the operation of the new line.
“We apologise for the inconvenience to passengers but ask for their understanding as the work being done is to improve and expand the coverage of urban rail public transport within the Klang Valley,” he said, adding there would be additional closures between August and October.
Amiruddin also said the names of the two MRT lines would from now officially be MRT Kajang Line for the former MRT Sungai Buloh‐Kajang Line, and MRT Putrajaya Line for the former MRT Sungai Buloh‐Serdang‐Putrajaya Line.
“The name change is to make the two lines conform to the naming convention for the existing urban rail lines in the Klang Valley, where a single rather than multiple names are used. For example, the LRT Kelana Jaya Line and the LRT Ampang Line,” he said, adding that the Agensi Pengangkutan Awam Darat had already approved the name changes.
Another reason for the name change, he added, was because, with the migration of the three stations, Sungai Buloh MRT Station would no longer be part of the MRT Kajang Line, making its previous name no longer relevant.
He said the future northern ends for both the MRT Kajang Line and MRT Putrajaya Line would be Kwasa Damansara MRT Station where passengers would be able to transfer from one line to the other conveniently by just walking across the elevated platforms.
Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, is the operator of the MRT Kajang Line while MRT Corp is the asset owner of the MRT Kajang Line as well as the project owner and developer of the MRT Putrajaya Line, the second line of the Klang Valley MRT Project.
Construction progress of the MRT Putrajaya Line is currently at 74%. Phase One of the line between Kwasa Damansara MRT station and Kampung Batu MRT station is expected to begin operations in mid‐2021, while the whole line is expected to open under Phase Two operations in January 2023.
